It is a major challenge to families dealing with special needs children. The availability of resources for the children to learn and grow to become independent within the limit of their capacity helps families cope with the difficulties. My passion is to provide support services for children to engage in self-care and independence, achieve their maximum potential in life, and support their families through appropriate training to reinforce learned skills at home as they guide their special needs children.
Having been an educator at the tertiary level in healthcare professional programs for nearly 4 decades, my passion has been to meet each student where they are in knowledge and help
move them up to where they need to be to achieve the set outcomes. I know that we learn differently and have different abilities and talents. It is my mission to identify the strengths of
our students and help them progress and maintain learned skills through individualized curricular planning. My academic background is B.Sc. in Pharmacology with a minor in Human Physiology, M.Sc. in Pharmacology, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics. I served as Lecturer/Senior
Lecturer at the College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus for 15 years; visiting Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and finally as Professor of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in the College of Nursing of Prairie View A&M University, Texas for 24 years.
Dr. Chinonyelum Anyanwu
When a child is born with special needs, it could be an overwhelming experience for the family. My passion is facilitating options for individuals with special needs and their families to achieve desired outcomes. I support individuals with special needs, their families, and their guardians as they explore their maximum potential by providing skills that foster self-advocacy and independence skills. I also support equity, diversity, and inclusive practices in the learning environment.
Since we are all differently abled, there should be varied approaches to teaching and learning based on individual strengths. My expertise includes targeted effective student-centered differentiating, accommodating, and modifying individualized education plans.
My educational background includes a BA in Education, MA in Curriculum and Instruction, MA in Special Education, and Ph.D. in Advanced Human Behavior. My professional experience spans
four decades in Texas public schools teaching General Education, English as a second language, Special Education, and working as a special education Evaluation Specialist.
